Notes from the Vicarage
The flag of St. George flies from the tower of St. Cuthbert's this Eastertide to celebrate the Risen Christ. The Red Cross reminds me of the cross of Christ and his blood shed for all of us. The White background reminds me of the purity of the Lamb of God offered up as a once and for all sacrifice to God. Saint George is the Patron Saint of England and his flag flies over the Parish Churches of England.
As it blows in the wind on the flagpole at the very top of the tower it is a wonderful sight to see . It seems to speak of a church that is alive and so it is.
Below in the tower the bell ringers are practicing their art and a joyful sound spreads in the village. Below in the church the organist and choir are practicing the hymns for Sunday service to come. Wonderful singing and peals of laughter from time to time can be heard. May, sees two more very important events in the church calendar, the Ascension of our Lord into heaven and the Feast of Pentecost. Pentecost, or you may know it as Whit Sunday, is the second most important day in the Church after Easter Day, At Pentecost we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit to the Disciples of Christ. Prayers are said every single day in this parish of Kirkby Ireleth by priest and people of St. Cuthbert's and the Good Shepherd and the other Christian churches in the village
The churches may from the outside look closed and if you venture into St. Cuthbert’s any day it may be empty of people but the church is always working somewhere in prayer or service. God is always inviting labourers in to do his work on earth, and the reward he offers is Eternal Life for those who truly believe in him.
St. George was loyal to Christ to the very last breath of his life.
Will that be said about you?
