COUNCIL
MEETING WEDNESDAY 17TH NOVEMBER
In the absence of Cllr. Greenway Cllr. Todd took the Chair.
Mr. R. Hodge was welcomed by the Council as the new Councillor for the Middle Ward.
No members of the Public attended but the Police were
represented by two officers. They reported that there had been no crime within
the parish for some time apart from one incident regarding damage to car tyres.
On being informed of Councillors’ concerns regarding speeding traffic they
agreed to monitor the situation as soon as possible.
Parish Plan:
The Footpath and Cycleways Group reported that the new footpath at the Community Centre was now complete. Proceedings are underway to have it adopted by the Footpaths Authority.
There were no reports from any of the other Groups.
As there had been no volunteers to implement a review of
the Parish Plan it was decided that Councillors should undertake the task. If
you would like to have an input into this very important project that will
determine, in part, the future of the Parish, please contact the Clerk, Mr.
Morrish, as soon as possible.
A number of road defects were reported and concern was
expressed at the frequency of buses turning at unauthorised places.
The proposed Celebrations for the Queen’s Jubilee were accepted by the Council and will be the official Parish Celebrations.
The 2112 precept was decided being a 3.5% increase on
last year’s figure. (There was no increase in 2011).
Two planning applications were discussed.
A report of a Duddon Estuary Partnership Meeting was
given by Cllr. Jackson. He stated that whilst a number of the local beaches at
this point in time were deemed safe for bathing this would not be the case in
two years time as the criteria for judging them was to be changed. He also
stated that National Grid had identified six possible routes through Cumbria for
the new high voltage electricity cables.
Cllr. Irving reported that the Greyhound Inn would
re-open on 3rd December and that the Community Hall was being well
used. The Hall is now fully functioning and a web site has been set up, the
address being, www.grizebeckhall.co.uk. Bookings can be made through Andrea
Wilson tel: 07905 779 584 or Gay Kelly tel: 889 948
District Cllr. Curwen reported about the ongoing
problems in Grizebeck regarding the obstructions caused by large vehicles being
parked adjacent to and on public rights of way.
The Council are looking for a “Broadband Champion”! Cumbria County Council is hoping to obtain a grant of forty million pounds(!) to install fibre optic broadband in rural areas of Cumbria. In order for Kirkby Ireleth to be part of this project a representative is required. If you are at all interested in this please contact Mr. Morrish as soon as possible.
